Boys Boys Boys

I thought I'd treat you to some fun pictures of the boys. Riley has recently become very interested in combing his hair. Tonight big brother was patient enough to let him comb his hair as well. I can tell you from experience this can be a bit painful. A couple of nights back Riley and Justin were having quite a funny little exchange that involved a lot of tongue. You'll just have to see that for yourself.

Box Boy

I made a Costco run this after noon and Riley loves the boxes. He spent his evening crawling in and out and putting the box on his head. Why o why do we buy toys. Talk about enjoying the simple things in life.

The Highlight Reel

I have been tossing this idea around for a few days. I started this blog as a way to deal with stress. I've talked to lots of moms that have found their blog as a huge stress reliever as well. It has occurred to me that I have not focused on all of the wonderful positive things in my life over the years. In an effort to remind myself of all of the blessings in my life I thought I would put together a highlight reel of my 33 years. We shall see how this crazy tribute to my 33rd birthday turns out.

-1976 I arrived in to the world!!
1
2
3
4
5 Started Kindergarten - the first of 13 years of school with many of my classmates.
6 -13 As I put this together I discovered I don't have a ton of really specific memories during this time. I have some of some crazy times with my brothers and sisters but nothing super specific. My parents did a good job of sheltering me from all the garbage that my older sisters were up to. I've learned more about it all as I've gotten older but adopting two older girls wasn't the easiest thing my parents ever did. Not the smoothest transition for my older brothers but all in all I have very happy memories from my young childhood. I had great birthday parties at the rollerskating rink or the Sweet Treat Factory. I remember that one clear as a bell. All my friends got to create their own ice cream sundaes and the birthday girl got this huge already done sundae with a candle. I thought I'd been gypped because I wanted to build my own. Man was I stupid. My parents drove me around to all the activities that I wanted to participate in. Basketball, volleyball, softball, piano lessons, band, and anything else I could dream up. My dad swears he have lots of extra years if he was able to get back all the time he spent waiting for me in front of the school waiting for practise to get out. I hope Rex has a good as memories as I do. It will mean I'm a good mom too.

14 Started high school. 4 crazy years of growing pains. I don't remember being a stinker but I guess my mom remembers a different version of my puberty.
15 I got my braces off. WOO HOO
16 - Got my drivers license - Mom and dad let me drive my sisters old car so I had wheels. Mary's little turd is what my friends called that 80 something Toyota Corolla hatchback.

17 Crowned Miss Reardan 2nd Princess and forced my parents to drive around to all kinds of parades so I could ride the float and and practise my princess wave. Jennifer (Queen) and Kristi (1st princes) and I had a great summer. With the big parade in Pendicton BC. My Aunt Dotty and my mom took the three of us girls to Canada for a parade. We nearly killed ourselves when we rented mopeds and buzzed around town. We were only lost for a short time. I tore my ACL playing basketball and spent 8 weeks on crutches.

18 (1994) I spent my 18th birthday at Chuck E Cheese with a ton of my crazy friends. Rex would have been jealous of that party. The party was spent on crutches since I had my ACL surgery shortly after I turned 18. Graduated from High school with 22 of the same kids I started kindergarten with when I was 5. Yes, I grew up in a very small town. I was super excited to be able to walk down the graduation aisle free of crutches. I seem to remember wearing very tacky shorts with 1994 plastered on my butt under that graduation gown. Aimee and Leona had the same matching ugly shorts.

19 Went to Rocky Mountain College in Billings MT and met Justin. We lived in the same dorms and met playing UNO with a group of kids in the lobby.
20
21
22 (1998) Graduated from College, Married Justin and landed my first grown up job. I was on top of the world and feeling bullet proof.

23 Moved home to Spokane. I finally realized that it was time to go home. I had spent 6 years in Montana because I had wanted to leave home when I graduated from highschool. I wanted a little adventure away from all of the kids I had grown up with and my family.
24 Started working for the American Cancer Society
25
26 (2002) Gave birth to Rex - my world would never be the same
27 Learned all about asthma and taking Rex to the Dr all the time. I think we had a standing Friday afternoon appointment with our favorite pediatrician.
28 Bought our first home.
29
30 Lost my sister to an apparent suicide. At the same time I gained another sister back as she rejoined the family and we found common ground over the loss of our sister. I also discovered I was pregnant with Riley this year and learned that 30 year olds do have babies with Down syndrome.

31 Riley was born and spent two weeks in the NICU. I spent the better part of the year getting used to having a baby in the house again and running around to therapy appointments. I was running around in so many circles that I didn't really notice how crazy my life was or how I wasn't really dealing with it. I was having issues with depression that I let go unchecked and all that stress packed on the pounds.

32 Was a big year. Rex started Kindergarten, Riley started walking and started this blog. I have grown in my faith and somewhere along the way stopped being mad at God. I have found that when I pray I have stopped asking for a solution and started asking for strength and patience in my life.

33 We shall see what this year brings for me and my family.

Well after putting my list together I didn't really come up with 33 memories to be thankful for but I did discover I have way too many to condense to a list of 33. It was a fun way to think about growing up and some of the highlights through the years. I have the best parents ever. I also some how found a wonderful husband that has put up with me for the last 10 almost 11 years. I bet after the last 6 months of total hormonal unbalance Justin would tell you it seems more like 30 years but we are still plugging along. I love my life with my boys, all three of them.

WOW - I want to know what you think about this topic!

OK this article that my darling husband sent to me today has a total YUCK factor for me and I wanted to see how others reacted to it. This mother is advertising for a girlfriend for her adopted son that has Down syndrome. She wants him to enjoy sex since other young adults are.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,509506,00.html

I feel like she should be teaching him to have mature loving relationships and not be so concerned about the physical act of sex. As a mom I want both of my boys to understand love and have healthy relationships. It is my job to teach them about healthy relationships and how to be safe and what all of the different aspects to a relationship are. Not knowing this young man I don't know what his emotional maturity is but it is very likely that he can't even truly understand all the pieces to a relationship that lead it to becoming sexual. There is so much more involved that I just want to shake this lady.

Anyway I'll get off my soapbox but I want to hear what everyone else things of this. Good - bad or otherwise I think it will be interesting to hear what your thoughts are.

We are alive

Last weekend Justin started coming down with a cold. We had made plans to go to a Wishing Start fundraiser but Justin was insistent that we go even though he was sick since it was my birthday weekend and my parents were keeping the boys for the entire weekend. Well we had a great time at the event with our friends Travis and Kristen. A grown up night with no kiddos. The sad thing was we were home and in bed by 10 and Justin barely got out of bed the rest of the weekend. A weekend with no kids and my husband was in bed sick. I dinked around on Saturday enjoying a day of shopping by myself and by Sunday was beginning to feel the pain that Justin was going through. The boys made it until Thursday morning to both get a fever and start in with the same fun. I took them in to the Dr because I was a little nervous about their breathing with Rex having asthma and Riley well on his way to the same diagnosis. Well the lung were clear but the boys tested positive for Influenza A and the Dr ensured me that if they tested positive and Justin and I still felt that terrible then we had it for sure as well. I don't ever remember being this sick before. Thankfully we caught it with the boys and they were able to take some medicine (tamaflu and something else) that made it shorter and less icky for them. They were still very sick boys. So it is Sunday a week later and I am finally going back to work tomorrow and Rex is back to school. I've never missed this much work just for my own illness before - ugh. Rex is very ready to go back to school and it will be good to get back in a normal routine. Well I'll stop whining now and share some pictures.

At some point during the week we caught Riley being funny and climbing in his drawer in the kitchen. It is where we keep his bowls and cups and he loves to get his own bowl for snacks. Well he decided it would also make a pretty good chair. The following day he climbed in and used it for a stool to reach something he wanted on the counter. Little stinker.

Wow looking at the counters and cabinets up close shows just how dirty and old they are. We are hoping to remodel the kitchen this year if money permits so keep your fingers crossed on that one.

He is getting quite demanding these days. For a month or better he has been running around say something that my friend Kacey swears is EAT S(*& Eat S(*& well lately I'm pretty sure that it is I SEE I See This last week while he was out at mom and dads he pushed his way into between my mom and the counter/stove while she was making dinner. After he gets wedged in there he says I SEE just a plain as can be. Now we hear I SEE I SEE for everything. He is nosey and wants to get a good view of everything that is going on.

Tonight we had a yummy dinner that my mom delivered for my birthday. It took us a week to actually want the promised ham and cheesy potatoes but mom delivered them today with a fruit salad and we had a feast. Riley loves Gramma's cheesy spuds too and is getting pretty good at poking his food and scooping with his fork. I was amazed at how he was able to chase the blueberry around and finally capture it with his fork. He still doesn't finish the entire meal with his fork unless you watch him constantly but he is getting better all the time.

Cousins come to play

Justin's brother and family stopped to see us on their way to Montana to visit family. It was a quick stop but it was great to see them. We were able to meet our new nephew that was born in December. He is beautiful and keeps his parents on their toes. He defiantly rules the house with big sister. With Cecelia Rose just over 1 and Trent Jr. at 2 months it is an understatement to stay that Trent and his wife Liz are exhausted. Riley and CeCe had a wonderful time "playing" It was super cute to see them. They are close to the same size and didn't quite know why the other kept touching their toys.
